Blob Warriors: Twilight Over Zim (Part Three) Chapter Two

BrookieVerse

Chapter Two

The Sphinx rocketed across the evening sky of Zim, a trail of black smoke billowing out from both of its sides.  Lt. Dolby struggled bravely with the controls, trying desperately to keep the starship from breaking apart while it was still in flight.  He succeeded in bringing the Sphinx down intact, aiming the crippled blob vessel toward a large, misty swamp.

As the Sphinx skimmed the water’s surface, crashing through trees and other forms of vegetation in its path, it erupted in fire.  Explosions blew all forms of metal debris into the air.  Junior remained calm throughout the landing.  When the Sphinx finally came to a halt in some shallow water, Junior ordered the crew to abandon ship.  They reassembled on dry ground about a hundred yards from the flaming wreckage.

“Is everyone alright?” Junior asked, surveying his wet and dirty crew.

“All accounted for, captain,” Lt. Dolby replied.

“Pass out the weapons, Lt. Shan,” Junior ordered.  Shan started handing out laser pistols to the group.  Junior attached a pistol to his belt.  “Ensign Bleen, you’ll be in charge of carrying the communication pack.  Dolby, you’ll take the food supplies.”

Bleen and Dolby immediately began wrestling the knapsacks onto their backs.

“What do we do now, captain,” the ensign asked.

“I’m open to suggestions.”

“We shouldn’t stay here,” Dr. Blake commented.  “That Inzect warship will probably send troops to inspect the crash site.”

Lt. Dolby glanced around at the fading daylight.  “It will be getting dark in a matter of hours,” he remarked.

“How far are we from Zintrella spaceport?” Junior questioned.

“Fourteen hours, maybe ten at best,” Shan answered.  “That’s if we can cross this swamp.”

“We were sent here by Blob Defense to complete a mission,” Junior firmly remarked.  “And as far as I’m concerned, we still must complete that mission.  Let’s move out.”

The crew of the Sphinx began splashing through the swamp.

Commander Flybor’s shuttlecraft hovered momentarily over the landing pad of Zim Palace.  As it gently touched down, King Zim and Zindy, in royal dress, approached.  Zindy could not help but notice in disgust, as she walked behind her father, all the Inzect soldiers surrounding the landing pad.

Commander Flybor exited the shuttle first, followed by the Plot Master and General Borg.  The Inzect troops snapped to attention as their leader passed.

“Commander Flybor, we welcome you and your party to Zim,” the king graciously said.

“Spare me your greetings, Zimian,” Flybor hissed.  “I am most displeased with the reports from my scientists.”

Suddenly, Flybor noticed Zindy standing in the background.  “Forgive my manners, King Zim.  Who might this beautiful creature be?”

“I present my daughter, Zindy.”

“Yes,” Flybor grinned, taking her hand with one of his Inzect arms.  He kissed it.  “I have heard much about you.  You are a true princess to your people.”

“Thank you, my lord,” Zindy replied with a slight curtsy.

“My landing party,” Flybor said, motioning to the two figures behind him.  “General Borg and the Plot Master.”

The group walked across the landing platform toward a small elevator.  The doors slid open, and they entered.  Zindy entered a security code.

“The turbo lift will take us to the palace’s inner chambers,” she said.

“Thank you, princess,” the Plot Master slyly remarked.

The doors closed and the elevator began its descent.

Nervous, Zim was the first to speak.  “Are so many Inzect ground forces necessary, Commander Flybor?  We are beginning our market season.  The people may become alarmed.”

“Your festival is not as important as protecting our twilight project,” Flybor angrily replied.

“Dr. Mantiz has reported several attacks on his supply building and laboratories,” General Borg said.  “Ground forces are extremely necessary, King Zim.  There are rumors of an organized movement called the Underground.”

“The Underground is hardly organized, General Borg,” Zindy said with a weak laugh.

“How interesting of you to say that, princess,” the Plot Master remarked as he studied her face.  She shuddered.

“Can they not be eliminated?” Borg wondered.

“Underneath the city is a complex sewer drainage system,” Zim began.  “They are said to hide down there in the shadows.”

“How fitting for scum,” Flybor said.

The elevator came to a halt and the doors slid quietly open.  The party walked out into a large caravan.  Standing on a steel platform, they stood overlooking a gigantic machine.  It hummed with incredible power.

“The ultimate weapon, Commander Flybor,” the Plot Master proudly boasted.

“Yes, my Plot Master.  It is truly awesome.”

Zim joined them at the railing.  “Your generator is depleting Zim’s natural resource supply.”

“That is more than a generator, father,” Zindy remarked.

Flybor turned and stroked her cheek with one of his clawed hands.  “You are perceptive for a child.  When this weapon is complete we shall use it to destroy the cities on the blob’s precious planet and then we shall rule the galaxy!”  Flybor walked back toward the turbo lift.  “Take me to Dr. Mantiz.”
